Artist Statement
I manifest metaphysical themes into tangible interactive objects and images in the hopes of building conversations where our emotions can reside; where our feelings can be encapsulated, held to be steeped in, or coaxed out into symbolic narratives.
As a multidisciplinary and mixed media artist, I use the human figure, everyday objects, and scientific motifs to ground viewers within abstruse themes. Experimenting with 3D forms or 2D planes, I combine abstract fine art and illustrative storytelling to parallel the phenomenon that ephemeral ideas, like love, happiness, or pressure are a result of the human consciousness and our lived reality. The wave-like energy and ambiguous patterns of light I typically use in my work provide a contrast to its straight forward imagery. My hope is that this dichotomy not only plants an objective storyline, but also gives individuals room to interpret its meaning through their own unique experiences and change it with their own shifting feelings: utilizing the human whims of emotion to make my art kinetic.
My creative process is driven by these emotions and I make art with the intention of answering the questions “What do you see when you're boiling with anger, swimming in love, or drowning in sadness?” By making pieces that embody these ephemeral strings, I challenge how they affect our perspective.
